The restaurant

A historic restaurant, tucked away between land and the lake in Riva San Vitale, in the small hamlet of Riva San Vitale.

“Porto Pojana - Ristorante Terminus” is now breathing new life, treating foodies to its classy cuisine specialising in pesce di mare, against a backdrop of enchanting and versatile dining rooms, a lounge to enjoy cigars and spirits, a wine cellar featuring prized labels, an enchanting terrace by the lake with inviting tables for lunch and dinner, and green spaces for aperitifs and small events.

Porto Pojana offers customers ample parking and convenient moorings to arrive at the restaurant on their own boat or with the regular boat service.

Our story

PORTO POJANA IN ALL ITS GLORY

The restaurant is housed in a building steeped in history and tradition, and has now been rediscovered and given new life.Built at the end of the 19th century as a refreshment stop for the stagecoaches that travelled between San Gallo and Varese (hence the name Terminus), the building was gradually expanded into a restaurant and accommodation for staff and patrons around the 1980s.Starting from some key characteristics of the building, such as the pink façade, herringbone wood, and the typical grey colour of the Terminus, architects Gaffurini, Pagani and Tresoldi developed a project that aimed to preserve the existing building (so not to alter the restaurant’s authentic setting), while at the same time trying to recreate the harmony of a small village.Ceramic material was the common thread running through the design, underpinning what would become an effective and innovative decorative system.

The space

MULTIFUNCTIONAL SPACES TO EXPERIENCE THE VILLAGE OF TASTE

From both the car parks and reserved berths, guests can easily reach the restaurant entrance via the ground floor, an ideal space for business lunches and dinners with family or friends.At the entrance, looking to your left, you’ll see the inside of our open kitchen where the cooks prepare our prized dishes. Continuing on to the first dining room, you’ll be sure to notice a modern glass unit containing the catch of the day.Next you’ll find the first dining room and service bar with its vaulted brick ceiling. This is a feature shared with our charming winery, set against the mountainside, with carefully designed furnishings to host wine tastings.Its modern style harks back to the tradition of fishmongers, yet with a new twist, playing on the colours of thousands of unique tiles covering the walls.You’ll enjoy a whole different experience by taking the stairs or lift to the first floor.The dining room features an open fireplace, finely laid round tables, a large oval table with a couch for 10 guests, and large windows looking out over the lake for you to enjoy our chef’s very best dishes in total relaxation.The small room after this one, with round tables and fabric sofas, offers the same unique experience.

The smoking room has a particularly cosy atmosphere, with its fireplace and leather sofas, where you can pair a good cigar with an excellent spirit, or sip a coffee or tea with unique aromas.

Along the loggia there are two well-equipped meeting rooms for companies to hold meetings at Porto Pojana; a terrace overlooking Brusino with large conservatory windows overlooking the lake, and a transparent roof to cast your eyes up to the mountains, for unparalleled contact with the nature of this fine setting, amid the lake and forest.

On the second and third floors, there are a number of duplex rooms and apartments, making Porto Pojana a true oasis of taste and relaxation.
